Winifred Belmont Obituary

Winifred F. Belmont, age 80, of Quincy passed away on September 8, 2024, at Beth Israel Hospital in Milton, Massachusetts. Born in South Boston, MA, she was extremely proud of her South Boston roots. She was the cherished daughter of the late Philip and Winifred (Flaherty) Belmont, and her legacy is carried on through her loving family and the many lives she touched.

Winifred, or "Winnie" as she was affectionately known by her close friends and family, was a beloved sister and aunt. She is survived by her devoted sisters, Mary R. Perdios of Quincy, Dorothy M. Loring of Hyde Park, and Judith A. Counterman of Westwood. She was predeceased by her siblings, Elizabeth A. Harmon, Irene L. Quigley, Nancy M. Belmont, Stephen P. Belmont, and Philip L. Belmont. Winnie's presence will also be profoundly missed by her many nieces, nephews, and cousins, who cherished the countless memories created with her.

A proud graduate of South Boston High School and UMass Boston. Winifred's professional journey was marked by her tenure in the Trust department of a Mellon Bank, where she worked for many years before her well-deserved retirement. Her diligence, integrity, and warmth made her a respected colleague and a treasured friend within the workplace.

A true daughter of South Boston, Winifred's pride in her heritage was matched only by her love for her family. A great cook, she often expressed her affection through her delicious meals, which were the centerpiece of family gatherings and celebrations. Her cooking was not just a hobby but a means of bringing people together, creating joy, and nurturing those she loved.

Her devotion to family was exemplified in her special bond with her late nephew, Michael Counterman. She was a devoted aunt to Michael, and their relationship was a source of great joy in her life. His loss was deeply felt, and her love for him remained a defining aspect of her character.
