William E. "Billy" Mulkern Obituary

William E. Mulkern, affectionately known as Billy to his friends and family, passed away on the 11th of October 2024. Born in Boston, MA, and proudly raised in North Quincy. Billy was the cherished son of Ann (Flaherty) Mulkern of Quincy and the late Joseph Mulkern. He was the beloved husband of Lynne Bridges and a devoted father to Joseph and Brendan. He is survived by his much-loved brothers Joseph Mulkern and his wife Robyn of Quincy, Daniel Mulkern and his wife Jana of Quincy, and Sean Mulkern of Hawaii. He will be deeply missed by his mother-in-law Eileen Bridges of Milton, brothers-in-law Scott Bridges and his wife Jen of Quincy, Brian Bridges and his wife Breda of Brookline and David Bridges and his wife Suzanne of Milton. Billy's warmth and kindness will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews Angela, David, Aidan, Kate, Emma, Connor, Luke, Daniel and Norah.

Billy was a proud alumnus of Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree and later went on to attend and graduate from UMass Dartmouth. His education laid the foundation for a successful career where he excelled as a Vice President for Brown Brothers Harriman in Boston. Billy had a genuine ability to connect with people, which he demonstrated during his time as a bartender at The Hub Pub in Boston and Malachy's Saloon in Quincy. His colleagues and friends alike will remember him for his fun-loving demeanor and the effortless way he made everyone feel welcome.

What brought Billy the most joy was coaching and watching his boys Joe and Brendan play sports. Whether it was basketball, baseball or hockey Billy could often be found on the sidelines cheering them on. Not only was he a fan, but he was also a regular player in both the Quincy and Milton Men's Softball League, where he showcased his teamwork and sportsmanship.

Music was another of Billy's great loves. He never missed the opportunity to see his favorite performers when they came to town most recently Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen and U2. His enthusiasm for music was infectious, and it was a joy that he generously shared with his friends and family.

As we mourn the loss of Billy Mulkern, we also celebrate a life lived with joy, love, and an unending commitment to his family and friends. He was a man who built enduring relationships and created countless cherished memories with all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Billy's legacy will continue to live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared.

His family takes comfort in knowing that Billy's spirit will remain a beacon of light, guiding them through the days ahead. His memory will be honored not just in grand gestures, but in the everyday acts of kindness that he embodied. Billy's life story is a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, and he will be profoundly missed by all. Billy’s family will be forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support demonstrated by the Milton and Quincy communities throughout Billy’s illness.
