Virginia M. Acerra (Shea) of Hull and Dennisport, formerly of Dorchester passed away June 6th at home surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in Dorchester, she graduated from St. Gregory School and Emmanuel College Class of 1955 and earned a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry She worked as the Director of Purchasing for the City of Boston Department of Health and Hospitals for many years before retiring. Virginia enjoyed spending the summer months at her home in Dennisport. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed working in her garden, feeding the birds in her yard, traveling and reading. She enjoyed car rides listening and singing along to the Sinatra Station, and all time spent with her grandchildren and "nothing was better than Brigham's vanilla ice cream".
Beloved wife of the late Stephen M. Acerra. Mother of Stephen M. Acerra Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Milton, Karen L. Williams and her husband Carlton of Braintree, Gregory J. Acerra of Hull, William J. Acerra and his wife Anne Marie of Norwell and Diane C. Acerra of Hull. Grandmother of Kylie and Nicole Acerra of Norwell, and Alyssa and Christopher Williams of Braintree. Sister of Carol A. Driscoll of Dedham and the late Alice G. Lund. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Thursday 4-8 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Gregory Church Dorchester Friday morning at 10 am. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
