Thomas B. Francis Jr. Obituary

Thomas B. Francis Jr., of Hyde Park passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at the age of 82. Born on March 18, 1942, the son of Thomas B. Francis and Ruth T. (Fitzmaurice) Francis. Thomas's life was marked by love, friendship, and a gentle playful spirit.

Thomas was a devoted husband to his late wife, Bonnie M. (Gauthier) Francis, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and love. He was a guiding light to his children, Thomas Francis III of Dedham, Sean P. Francis and his wife Marcia of Bridgewater, and Kimberly Nellany of Quincy. His wisdom and warmth will live on through them and his six adored grandchildren: Ryleigh Francis, Daniel Francis, Jason Francis, Michael Nellany, Devin Nellany, and Matthew Nellany, who will continue to be inspired by his legacy.

A proud graduate of Dorchester High School, class of 1960. He went on to earn a degree from Northeastern University, and a Master's in Public Policy from Suffolk University. He joined the city of Boston Personnel Department under Mayor John Collins. Tom worked his way up to Director of Personnel under Mayor Kevin White, Mayor Ray Flynn, and Mayor Thomas Menino. He retired after 42 years of service. For a few years after retirement, he worked part time for the then Boston City Councilor Stephen Murphy.

Tom was the captain of the Dorchester High School football team, 1960. Because of his outstanding athletic ability, he was selected as All City Defensive Back. Tom's love of football kept him playing through many years for the Dorchester Lyons Club. He served six years in the Massachusetts National Guard. Many happy fun filled years were spent with family and friends at his homes in Florida and New Hampshire.

Thomas's siblings, Robert "Bob" Francis of Milton, Joan Sheehan of Milton, Jean Perrault of Illinois, and the late Paul Francis, will remember him as a loving brother who always put family first. His presence brought comfort and joy to every family gathering, and his absence will be deeply felt.

Thomas's character was the epitome of loving, kind, and thoughtful. He approached life with a gentle demeanor and a generous heart, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. His unwavering positivity and his ability to see the good in people and situations were truly remarkable.

As we bid farewell to Thomas B. Francis Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will be treasured in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and his spirit will continue to guide us. Thomas's journey on earth may have concluded, but the impact of his love and kindness will resonate for generations to come.
