Ruth B. McGilvery (Butler) of Milton passed away December 24th at home surrounded by her loving family. Born and raised in S. Boston, she graduated from South Boston High School and Rittner School of Floral Design. Prior to marriage Ruth worked for Mass Casualty Insurance where she was asked to be the first female Underwriter. Ruth ran her own Floral Design business from her home for many years. She was an active parishioner of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Milton, and the former Vice President of the Gate of Heaven Guild, a former member of the John T. Powers Flower Club, S. Boston Garden Club, Castle Island Assn, Milton Women’s Club, and Cunningham Park Assn. She enjoyed spending time at the family home in Scituate and summering in Dennisport.
Beloved wife of the late George V. (retired Captain BFD). Mother of Joan McGilvery of Milton, Nancy McGilvery of Milton, and Karen Whelan of Quincy. Grandmother of Courtney Whelan MacLean. Great grandmother of Nolan MacLean. Sister of the late Marguerite Tondorff, Edward Butler, and Gertrude Stack. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Milton Thursday at 12:00 noon. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Thursday morning prior to the mass from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Burial St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph. Donations may be made in her memory to VNA Hospice & Palliative Care, Fund Development Office, 199 Rosewood Dr., Suite 180, Danvers, MA 01923. The family requests all guests wear a mask.
