Robert L. Hughes Jr. Obituary

Robert L. Hughes, Jr. age 78, of Winthrop passed away April 19th at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. Born and raised in Albany, NY he graduated from Albany Academy, Boston University and earned his JD from New England School of Law. Formerly of Weston, he has lived in Winthrop for the last 10 years.


Robert was a health care executive for many years serving most recently as the Vice President of Operations at the Brockton Hospital and before that as the Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts Association of HMOs. He began his career at the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation.


He was a devoted family man who loved to spend time in Aruba and Arizona and on the many other trips and family vacations throughout the years.


He was the beloved husband of Susan J. Hughes (Ellis), father of Kristen Hughes and Robert L. Hughes III and loving grandfather of Logan, Luke, and Maizie. He is also survived by his beloved sister in law Cecelia H. Abraham.
