Rita M. Callahan, of Milton, passed away on January 31, 2022, at the age of 100 years, in Perry, GA. Rita was born in Boston and raised in Quincy before finally moving to Milton. She was a graduate of Quincy High School class of 1936. She worked as a secretary for State Mutual Insurance Company in Boston for 30 years, retiring in 1986. A lifelong communicant of St. Agatha Church in Milton, she was a member of the choir and a Eucharistic Minister. In the 1940’s, Rita sang and performed on her WBZ television show, Calla Calling. She performed at the Boston VA Hospitals for hospitalized veterans, with the Proparvulis Club (an affiliate of Catholic Charities) and Bells & Beaux.
Those who knew Rita were touched by her gentle kind heart. She had an inner light. Her advice for living a long life was, “Be good to each other.”
Rita was the daughter of the late Francis V. and Annie (Fox) Callahan and sister of Francis E., Paul A., and Irene Saddler. She is survived by her brothers Robert V. of Franklin and Joesph P. of GA. Rita is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. She is the cherished friend of Maureen Fallon, her longtime caregiver.
Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Sunday 3-6 pm. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Monday morning at 10:00 am. Burial Milton Cemetery.
