Rita Gill Obituary

Rita B. (Lydon) Gill, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at Newbridge on the Charles in Dedham, Massachusetts.

Rita was born in Dorchester Massachusetts on December 19, 1925 to the late Bridget (Walsh) Lydon originally of Callowfeenish, Carna, County Galway, and Joseph Lydon of Letterfrack Ireland.

Upon completing school, Rita began her working career at the New England Telephone Company. Later, when her children were older, she worked twenty years for the Town of Milton as the Kitchen Manager at the Pierce Middle School.

While she lived most of her life in Dorchester and Milton, she and her husband spent fifteen retirement years in Vero Beach Florida. For the last twenty years, they enjoyed living at Fuller Village in Milton, where they were original occupants in the Brush Hill Apartments when they were first completed, making many cherished friends there.

Rita was married to the late Harold J Gill for sixty nine years before his passing in 2017. She was the devoted mother to Patricia Gill of Milton, Norma Gill of Milton, Stephen Gill and Susan DeSisto of Walpole, and Thomas and Suzanne Gill of Canton. She was the proud Grandmother of Anya Gill, Nicolas Gill, Emma Lanza and her husband Charles, Thomas Gill, and Patrick Gill. She also very much loved her Great Grandchildren Simon Lanza and Ruth Lanza.

Rita was the youngest of eight children, all predeceased. Six brothers, John (Dorothy) Lydon, Joseph(Evelynn) Lydon, James (June) Lydon, Thomas (Lorraine) Lydon, Stephen Lydon, Martin (Mary) Lydon, and one beloved sister, Mary (Joseph) Nee.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews she adored on both sides of her family.

Throughout her life, Rita's devout faith was an integral part of her life, an inspiration to all who knew her. While her children were young, she was a dedicated member of the St. Mary of the Hills Parish in Milton participating in Catholic Daughters and St. Mary of the Hills Women's Guild. She also spent more recent years as a regular parishioner at St. Pius X church also in Milton.

Rita's memory will be a treasure kept alive through the stories shared of her family's Irish heritage, the family values she taught her children through her example, and the love she so freely gave to all she knew.
