Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave, Milton on Sunday June 11th from 4:00-7:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Council in Quincy on Monday June 12th at 10:30am. Burial to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery.
Richard R. Tilley, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023, in Hyannis. Born in Roxbury, Massachusetts on March 28, 1930, he was the son of the late William F. Tilley Sr. and Margaret E. Tilley. Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife, Katherine C., and his siblings, Helen, Margaret, William, David, John, and Eugene Tilley.
A graduate of BC High School, Boston College and Boston College Law School. He was a proud triple Eagle, a lifelong learner and an avid supporter of his alma mater. His dedication to education and personal growth was evident in his successful career as an insurance auditor with American Mutual Liability Insurance Company, from which he retired in 1999. He was an avid reader, and kept up to date with current affairs, he was a philosopher and philanthropist. Throughout his life, Dick's generous spirit and passion for knowledge touched the lives of countless individuals and made a lasting impact on his community.
Throughout his life, Dick was known for his mischievous nature, adventurous spirit, and faith-filled heart. He was a devoted husband, spending cherished time with his wife, Katherine, and together they enjoyed many cruises and travels around the world. His love for people was evident in the warm welcome he extended to all who entered his home, and he found great joy in the company of others.
Dick had a wide range of interests that enriched his life and the lives of those around him. He was a true renaissance man with a great taste in music, a passion for gardening, and a talent for playing cards. He was an enthusiastic golfer and loved every meal he ate, often sharing his culinary experiences with friends and family.
A man of deep faith, Dick was an active parishioner at Holy Trinity Church in Harwich, as well as Our Lady of Good Council in Quincy. His commitment to his faith community was evident in his involvement in various parish activities and his unwavering support of fellow parishioners.
Dick was also an active member of the Boston College Alumni Club and took great pride in being the oldest alumnus on a recent cruise down the Cape. He was a loyal fan of BC football games, he traveled to West Point for the BC/ Army game, to Syracuse, and to Annapolis, he attended as many games as he could, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow fans.
In addition to his late wife and siblings, Dick is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews, who will remember him fondly for his loving and unique nature, adventurous spirit, and faith-filled heart. Dick provided a plethora of entertainment and there was always a story to tell after spending time with him.
Richard R. Tilley, known to all as Dick, leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, adventure, and faith that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
