Rev. Francis X. Mawn Jr., a cherished priest, devoted brother, and compassionate educator, peacefully entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2025, at the Regina Cleri Residence in Boston, Massachusetts. Born on August 8, 1947, in Boston, MA, he dedicated his life to serving God and his community with unwavering faith and boundless love.

Rev. Mawn was a pillar of strength and an example of selfless service to all who knew him. He was born in Boston, and attended St. Agatha School in Milton, laying the foundation for his lifelong commitment to education and spiritual growth. He furthered his studies at Boston State College, graduating in the class of 1969. His pursuit of knowledge and desire to help others led him to Boston College Graduate School, where he earned a degree in Social Work in 1976. His deep calling to the priesthood guided him to Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, from which he graduated in the class of 1982.

His vocational journey began at St. Mary's Church in Lynn, where he served from 1982 until 1988. His passion for mission work took him far from home to the St. James Society in Ecuador, where he worked diligently from 1988 until 1994, touching countless lives and embodying the love and teachings of Christ. Upon returning to Massachusetts, Rev. Mawn continued his ministry at St. Rose of Lima in Chelsea from 1994 to 1998, followed by his service at St. James Church in Haverhill from 1998 until 2006. He concluded his active ministry at Corpus Christi Parish in Lawrence, where he remained a beloved figure until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Rev. Mawn was known for his profound empathy, his ability to listen deeply, and his talent for bringing comfort to those in need. His work in social services, combined with his pastoral care, allowed him to touch the lives of the poor, the sick, and the marginalized in a way that truly made a difference.

Rev. Mawn leaves behind a legacy of faith and love as he is survived by his devoted siblings: Kevin Mawn of Milton, Michelle R. Mawn of Braintree, and Annmarie Koehler of Quincy and their families. He is predeceased by his sister Marylou Tierney and his brother Joseph B. Mawn. His family, along with the many parishioners and community members whose lives he enriched, will remember him as a beacon of hope and a guiding light.

As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable life of Rev. Francis X. Mawn Jr. His was a life lived with purpose and grace, a testament to the power of faith in action. In his memory, we cherish the countless moments of joy he brought to our lives, the wisdom he imparted, and the unwavering support he provided to his community.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in honor of Rev. Mawn, allowing friends, family, and those whose lives he touched to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived. His final resting place will be among those he served, in the city that he loved and called home.

In the hearts of those he leaves behind, Rev. Francis X. Mawn Jr. will forever be remembered not just for the sermons he delivered or the services he led, but for his laughter, his kindness, and his enduring message of love and service to one's neighbors. May he rest in peace as he joins the heavenly choir, continuing his ministry from above.


Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Thursday March 13th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.  Funeral Mass at St. Agatha Church, Milton Friday morning March 14th at 11:00.  Burial Milton Cemetery.
