R. David Carnathan Obituary
R. David Carnathan, who lived a life marked by love, kindness, and thoughtfulness, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 4th at the age of 77.
He was the beloved husband of Regina M. Carnathan (Pond), and the devoted son of the late Robert David and Jeannette I. Carnathan of Squantum. He was raised in Quincy and later made his home in Milton, where he lived for the past 47 years.
Family was at the center of David’s life. He was a loving father to his son Robert David Carnathan and his wife Cassandra of North Attleboro, and to his daughter Ashley Carnathan of Milton. He was a proud and caring grandfather to Holden, Ryleigh, and Quinn, and he cherished every moment he spent with them. He was also the younger brother of the late Dianne Goetten of Minnesota. His devotion to his family was evident in the way he supported, encouraged, and cared for those he loved, and he was especially devoted to his children throughout their lives.
David was a proud graduate of North Quincy High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston. He valued education and carried the discipline and determination he learned throughout his life into everything he did. And imparted these values on his children and loved ones. His work as a Local 11 stagehand reflected his strong work ethic and steady presence, and he was respected by those who knew him through his profession and associations. He loved the theatre and all things art. He was a lover of music, attended the original Woodstock, and was the biggest fan of the Beatles. Their music was truly the soundtrack to his life.
David was known for his warm heart and generous spirit. He coached his children's youth sports and gave his time and energy to helping young people learn, grow, and succeed. Those who knew him understood how deeply he cared about others and how naturally he offered encouragement and support. He brought enthusiasm, loyalty, and a quiet strength to the many roles he held in life, and he will be remembered for the steady love he shared with his family and friends.
In his personal life, David enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him happiness. He had a lifelong interest in coin collecting and baseball cards, and he enjoyed following the Boston sports teams with enthusiasm. He especially loved the Red Sox. These interests reflected his appreciation for tradition, memory, and the excitement of the games and collections that connected him to moments of joy over the years. His memory will remain a blessing to all who knew him, and his presence will be missed in the hearts of those who loved him most.
Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite AveMilton on Saturday May 9th from 10:00am-11:00am. A service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00am. Burial to follow at Milton Cemetery.
