Patricia (Crowley) Mitchell

Patricia Crowley Mitchell, wife, mother, sister, and friend to many, passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 in Avon, Connecticut. She was 78 years old. Patricia was born on April 13, 1942 in Dorchester, Massachusetts to Edward Jr. and Catherine Crowley. She married J. Douglas Mitchell on May 27, 1972. The couple lived in St. Louis, Missouri for twelve years and had one daughter before moving to Sudbury, Massachusetts. In 1989, the family moved to Avon, Connecticut, where they were based ever since. Patricia worked at a number of financial institutions, and later at Aetna and The Hartford insurance companies, specializing in the management of web design. She retired in 2011, and devoted her life to her first loves: literature, the visual arts, cooking, and travel. She had many destinations on her “bucket list”, but it was Africa that captured her imagination and heart. She had the good fortune of traveling there in 2016, visiting the countries: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya, Botswana and South Africa. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Edward “Teddy”. She leaves behind her husband, J. Douglas Mitchell; daughter, Caitlin Mitchell; sister, Nancy Crowley; numerous cousins and beloved friends. Visiting will be held at the Alfred D Thomas Funeral Home, Milton, Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 10 to 11 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Elizabeth Church at 11:30 am. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions only 20 guests will be allowed within the funeral home at once, masks are required, and guests should bring their own pens to sign the register book.  Interment will be private. The family will hold a memorial for Patricia at a later date.
