Nora A. Goonan Obituary
Nora A. Goonan (Mulkerrin), 78, of Quincy, formerly of Milton, passed away on May 24, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Ireland on February 9, 1948, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, strong work ethic, and a warm spirit that touched all who knew her.
She was the beloved wife of Patrick J. Goonan for 59 years. Together, they built a loving home and a family that remained the center of her life. She was the mother of Kathleen Martin and her husband Paul of Quincy, Margaret Walsh and her husband Timothy of Milton, Patrick Goonan and his wife Jennifer of Milton, and Mark Goonan and his wife Maryellen of Quincy. She was the youngest of 14 siblings and is survived by sisters Margaret Keogh of Braintree and Barbara Webster of London. She leaves behind 12 grandchildren, each of whom brought her great pride and joy and was pre-deceased by a granddaughter Erin Marie Goonan.
Nora was raised and educated in Ireland and came to the United States at the age of 16. Her early journey reflected the courage and determination that would define her throughout her life. She carried with her the values of hard work, perseverance, and loyalty, and these qualities guided her in every chapter that followed. She embraced her new life in America while always remaining deeply connected to her Irish roots and heritage.
For many years, Nora served as a Food Service Manager for the Milton Public Schools, where she was respected for her dedication, reliability, and kind manner. She retired in 2011 after a long and meaningful career. Earlier in her working life, she was employed as a Teller for South Boston Savings Bank. In each role, she was known for her professionalism and her steady presence, and she formed lasting relationships with those she worked alongside.
Family was paramount in Nora’s life, and she found her greatest happiness in the love and company of her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and those moments were among the most treasured of her life. She also found immense joy out on the dance floor, and nothing made her happier than attending Irish dances, hand-in-hand with Dad.
Her home and heart were always open to her family, and she created a sense of warmth and belonging that will be remembered with deep affection. She was a source of comfort, encouragement, and strength to those closest to her.
Nora was also a former member of the Boston Irish Music Club, where she enjoyed the fellowship and traditions that connected her to her heritage. She liked walking and appreciated the simple pleasures of everyday life. Her interests reflected her gentle nature and her appreciation for community, family, and the world around her. She will be remembered for her kindness, her quiet strength, and the love she so freely gave.
Her life was one of devotion, resilience, and grace. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though her passing leaves a profound loss, her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved and in the many lives she touched throughout her 78 years.
Relatives and friends invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Agatha Church, Milton Saturday morning at 10:30. Burial will follow in Milton Cemetery.
