June 26, 1944 ~ November 22, 2021 (age 77)

Obituary

Nancy L. Daley (Laing) of Mattapan passed away on November 22, 2021 at her home in Boston, Massachusetts.

Nancy was born in Puerto Cortes, Honduras, on June 26, 1944.   She was the oldest of six children born to the late Mavis Cecilia Laing and the late John Edward Laing. At an early age became a member of the Zion Methodist Church. Nancy began her college education in Puerto Cortes until the family moved to Tela in 1965, where she continued to pursue her studies in education. She graduated from the Instituto Triunfo De La Cruz in Tela with a teaching degree and worked as an elementary school teacher for many years until she moved to the United States.

Nancy resided briefly in Florida, where she married her childhood Honduran boyfriend, Carl Daley, and they later settled in Boston, Massachusetts.  Nancy worked for Bank of New England for nearly 25 years in financial security investments, and later retired from the City of Boston’s Inspectional Services department.  She joined the Church of the Holy Spirit in Mattapan, where she was a member for close to 50 years, serving on various ministries and volunteering at food pantries.

Faith and education were of paramount importance to Nancy, and she shared these values with her children. She believed that an education was not only learned in a classroom, but also by traveling the world. An avid traveler, Nancy knew that visiting various countries and learning about different cultures was as important as studying in a classroom, and that pursuing both meant enhancing one’s life far beyond the expectation of what society called for.

Nancy’s real and abiding passions were her family, friends, and – most importantly – her Heavenly Father. Nancy sought to instill in her children a zest for life, a deep appreciation for the arts, a commitment to family and friends, and the virtue of serving others.  She was known for her peaceful yet elegant demeanor, beautiful engaging smile, and her loving and inviting social gatherings.  Nancy was an amazing cook and hostess known for her delicious homemade apple pie, sweet potato and marshmallow casserole, pastelitos, corn-rice and yuca cake.

She was a devoted mother of Carl St. John Daley of New Hampshire and Valeska Daley of Roslindale, MA. She was a loving grandmother of Oliva Nancy Daley and Jonah Michael Daley, and caring sister to Janet Ondina Beckford of California, Sandra Cecilia Manzanares of Milton, Marco Esteban Laing of Honduras, and the late Alberto Laing and Marcia Kay Valerio.  She is remembered and loved dearly by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, god children, extended family, and friends.
