Milagros M Paradela

Milagros Martinez Paradela passed away at age 91 in the company of family and friends in Quincy on Dec. 6th, 2018. She was born in Poro, Cebu, Philippines, Nov. 2nd, 1927. She is survived by her sister Salvacion Bernaldez, brother David Martinez, and her children Manuel and his wife Lisa, Celestina and her husband Eden, Alpha and her husband Maurizio, Isolde and her husband Nilo, and Invictus and his wife Joy. She was the grandmother to Gerome, Gerry, Sophia, David Emmanuel, Francoise, Christian, Manuelo, Monico, Margar, and Fraulein.

She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Paradela Sr.

Milagros worked as a physician for many years, focusing on the relationship between tuberculosis and poverty. She worked to uplift the lives of those affected by the disease in indigent populations. Her work, while primarily done in the Philippines, also took her to Nigeria—where she practiced medicine for 15 years.

She enjoyed sewing and cooking, proving to be an artist at heart. Her children fondly remember the insurance of good grades on their school projects due to her creative help. Upon being notified of her death, a number of friends and family came forward to tell stories of the variety of ways—financially, emotionally, and otherwise—that she came to their aid. Full of compassion, she hosted guests such as fishmongers, cobblers, the unemployed, and the sick on Christmas Day at her home. She will be remembered for her devout faith, immense generosity, and abundant love for her friends and family.

Her viewing is on Dec. 27th at 8:30 in the morning at Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave. Milton, MA. It will be followed by her funeral mass at St. Agatha Parish, 432 Adams Street, Milton, MA and a lunch reception at the Common Market, 97 Willard St., Quincy, MA. She will be cremated and her ashes will be returned to Cebu, Philippines to be buried with her late husband Manuel’s ashes.
