Michael L. Roberts, affectionately known as “Skip”, passed away suddenly on August 21, 2023, in Stoughton, MA. Born on February 6, 1942, in Hyde Park, MA, to parents Michael and Marianna (Petrucci), Skip lived a life full of love, creativity, and an undeniable knack for fixing things.
Skip was a proud graduate of Hyde Park High School, class of 1959. His dedication to service led him to join the Air Force, where he made his mark during the Vietnam Era, achieving the rank of A1C (E-4). His work ethic and determination continued throughout his professional career as a Heavy Equipment Operator for R. Zoppo Corp., where he served the union Local 4 for over 50 years. His colleagues knew him as a steadfast worker and a reliable team member.
Skip was a man of many interests and talents. He had a green thumb and found immense joy in gardening. His love for cooking was evident in the delicious Italian sauce and meatballs he prepared for his family and friends. A collector at heart, Skip had a unique collection of coins that he cherished. He enjoyed playing golf and always looked forward to spending time fixing things around the house. His hands were rarely still, always busy with a new project or tinkering with his beloved El Camino. Yet, his most cherished moments were those spent with his grandchildren, whether it was attending their sporting events or simply enjoying their company.
In 1967, Skip married the love of his life, Joan Marie (Linehan), who sadly predeceased him in 2018. Their enduring love story is commemorated by their children: Tara Hutcheson of Stoughton, Michael P. and his wife Renee (Beacham) of Canton, Cordae Jones and her husband Michael of Milton, and Curt Roberts and his wife Kerry of Canton. Skip was a beloved Grampy to Matthew Hutcheson, Christian Hutcheson, Ellie Rae Roberts, Michael "Buck" Roberts, Michael Jones, Camden Jones, Alexis Roberts, and Ryan Roberts.
Skip is survived by his siblings, Angela Antoon and her husband Edmund of Weymouth, and Susan Kearns. He was also the brother of the late Paul Roberts and Barbara Downing. His family remembers him as a loving and creative soul, always ready with a helpful hand and a heart full of love.
Skip's legacy will be remembered not just by his family, but by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His love for life, his tireless work ethic, and his unwavering commitment to his family are attributes that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Michael L. "Skip" Roberts, a man of strength, creativity, and love, will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he left behind.
