Maureen O’Connell , lifelong resident of Milton, passed away peacefully on May 25th. Beloved daughter of the late Daniel & Anna (Finnigan) O’Connell and pre-deceased by her brothers, Brian and Dan O’Connell. She is survived by her nephews Jim and Don O’Connell and her nieces Diane, Karen, Pamela and Danielle. She is also survived by her sister-in- law Mary O’Connell and by several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Maureen was educated in Milton grammar schools and a graduated from Notre Dame Academy in the Back Bay. She was a graduate from Boston Teachers College and taught elementary school in Dorchester and Mattapan during the difficult years of busing. She once said she took so many students on field trips to the Freedom Trail over the years that she could give the tour herself, word for word.
Maureen traveled during her younger adult years to Hawaii, Bermuda, Spain, Mexico, Ireland and all over Europe. Later, she spent winters in her town house in Sarasota, FL and summers in her cottage in West Harwich, Cape Cod.
Maureen loved watching NCIS with Mark Harmon, reading anything by Mary Higgins Clark, Fudge and was a loyal Tom Brady fan, no matter what team he played for.
Known mostly to us as Aunt Maureen or affectionately as A.M. for short, she will be greatly missed. Many thanks to her wonderful lifelong neighbors Kay, Corrine and Sue.
