Mary Teresa “Maureen” Egan (née Dwyer), of Milton, Massachusetts, and Eyeries, Beara, County Cork, Ireland, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Maureen was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her devoted daughters: Mary Egan (James) of Norwell, Noreen Egan of Dorchester, Kathleen Egan of Milton, and Loraine Vaughan (James) of Dover. Maureen was a proud grandmother to: Lily Donahue (Charles), Kevin Cyr, Daisy Magner, Aidan Coyne, Jennifer Bissonnette (Evan), Michael Vaughan (Tess), Patrick Vaughan, and Sarah Vaughan. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Cameron Donahue, Taylor Donahue, and Emma Bissonnette. Maureen is survived by her dear siblings: Patrick Dwyer of Quincy, Michael Dwyer of Westwood, and Eileen O’Connor of San Francisco. Maureen is predeceased by her parents, Pat and Helena Dwyer, her beloved husband Roger J. Egan, her cherished son, Roger E. Egan, and her treasured grandson, Aidan Michael Coyne.

Born in Eyeries, Castletownbere, County Cork, Ireland, Maureen was a pioneer for her family, becoming the first of her siblings to immigrate to the United States in 1955. In Ireland, she worked as a seamstress, a skill that enabled her to continue her trade upon settling in Boston.

She met and married Roger J. Egan, who swept her off her feet at Irish dances. Roger went on to successfully co-own the Erie Pub in Roslindale. Together, they settled in Milton, where they raised their family and made their home beginning in 1970. Maureen’s greatest joy was her family, and she took immense pride in creating a home filled with love, laughter, and good company. The doors were always open to friends and family from Ireland and the United States alike, welcoming all with warmth, generosity, and a hot Irish meal.

Her outgoing and social nature made her a beloved member of her community. Maureen was an active participant at the Irish Pastoral Center, where she connected with her roots and helped to foster a sense of heritage and belonging among the Irish-American community. Her laughter was infectious, and her presence at social gatherings will be deeply missed.

Maureen lived peacefully in her own home, thriving in her 90th year, lovingly cared for by her devoted daughters and dedicated caregiver Ann Sheehy. She found great comfort in the simple pleasures of life, often enjoying a cup of tea with Irish bread while listening to the Irish Hit Parade.
