Mary F. Sawicky Obituary

Mary F. Sawicky (Brodie) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on August 1, 2024. Born in Somerville, MA, Mary was a lifelong resident of the greater Boston area and a cherished member of her community. She lived a rich and fulfilling life, marked by her devotion to education, family, and friends.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late John J. Sawicky, with whom she shared a devoted 55 year marriage. She was a loving mother to her sons, John P. Sawicky and his wife Pooja of Lexington, MA and Andrew Sawicky of Milton. Her role as a grandmother to Julian and Asha Sawicky was one she embraced with immense joy and pride. Mary was also a loving sister to Kathleen Brodie of Quincy, Paul Brodie of Whitman, and was predeceased by her sister Patricia Reardon.

Raised in Dorchester, Mary was a proud graduate of Cardinal Cushing High School in South Boston and later attended Boston State College. Her passion for education was evident in her early career as a highly regarded math teacher in Brockton, Canton, and Randolph where she touched the lives of countless students with her intelligence and compassion.

Those who knew Mary will remember her for the loving and kind soul she was. She had an innate ability to light up a room with her presence and to make anyone in her company feel valued and understood. Mary's intelligence was matched by her humility and her willingness to offer guidance and support to those around her.

Beyond her family and professional life, Mary had a range of interests that enriched her days. She had a keen eye for antiques and often could be found shopping for unique finds that she would incorporate into her home. Gardening was another pastime in which she found great solace, taking pleasure in the tranquility and beauty of nature. However, it was the time spent with her grandchildren that Mary most especially enjoyed. Every moment with Julian and Asha was treasured, and she imparted to them the same love and wisdom that she had shared with her own children.

Mary lived a life that exemplified the virtues of motherhood. Her legacy is one of warmth, nurturing, and an unwavering commitment to her family and the many lives she touched. She will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary's memory will continue to be a guiding light for those she leaves behind, inspiring them to live with the same grace and compassion that she embodied throughout her life.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Agatha’s Church in Milton on Friday morning at 10:30 with visitation at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home located at 326 Granite Ave., Milton on Friday morning prior to the Mass from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the Mass at Milton Cemetery.
