Mary McGaugh Obituary

Mary A. McGaugh (Burns), age 87, of Canton, formerly of Dorchester passed away November 16th at Brightview in Canton.  Born in Dorchester, she was a lifelong resident of Dorchester before moving to Canton in 2017.  She graduated from Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy in Brighton, Class of 1950 and went on to Katherine Dell School in Boston.  She worked as a secretary and administrator at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester for 31 years where she was honored to receive the President’s Award in 2005, an honor bestowed on an employee exemplifying the mission of CARE-compassion, advocacy, respect, and excellence in service to the Caritas Carney Hospital.  Mary served as Administrative Manager of the Carney Independent Practice Association, Inc.  She was a longtime dedicated parishioner of St. Gregory Church in Dorchester. 

Beloved wife of the late Harvey J. to whom she was married for 47 years.  Mother of Dr. Mary Ann McGaugh and her husband Pedro Armijos of Canton, Stacey I. Sullivan and her husband John of Canton, Margaret M. Burchsted and her husband Roy of Plainfield, Il., and James E. McGaugh and his wife Katherine of Needham.  Proud Nana to Grace Armijos, Maribeth, Kaitlyn, and Sean Sullivan, Daniel and Emily Burchsted, and Quinlan and Aidan McGaugh.  Sister of Barbara J. Burns of Canton and the late Elaine Hastings and Paul Burns.  Pre-deceased by her parents John “Jack” Burns and Irene C. (Finneran) Burns.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand-nephews, with whom she loved sharing holidays and festive family gatherings.   Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Sunday from 2-5 pm.   Due to the Current Covid 19 restrictions only 20 guests are allowed in the funeral home at a time, masks are required, and guests should bring their own pens to sign the register book.  Funeral Mass at St. Gregory Church, Dorchester Monday morning at 10.  Burial Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Advancement Office, Saint Joseph Preparatory High School, 617 Cambridge St., Boston, MA 02134.or made online at www.saintjosephprep.org/support/make-a-gift
