Mary Frances Whalen Cummings, aged 101, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024, at her home. Mary was born in Queens, New York to John and Grace Whalen. She was a graduate of Queens College. Mary was the wife of the late Raymond Cummings. She was the devoted mother of Cathleen Eastburn and her husband Michael of Jamaica Plain, Owen Cummings of Baltimore and Laura Herring and her husband Thomas of Milton.
Being the enthusiastic grandmother of Samuel Misiura (who predeceased her), Beth Eastburn, Fiona Cayer and Rina Herring was a great joy for her. Mary was also the proud great-grandmother of Ewan Misiura, Eli Misiura, Brynn Cayer, Bryce Cayer, Signe Eastburn and Graham Eastburn.
Her brothers, John, Thomas, Paul and Edward predeceased her.
Mary taught in the Northport public schools for many years, as an elementary level and middle school American history teacher.
She was an active gardener and skilled do it yourself-er. Family history was a great interest and led to many discoveries into our families past.
Her family will miss her dearly. "Mom! Stay off the roof."
Her caregivers from Angels Among Us provided her with assistance of great care and compassion. Our heartfelt thanks go to Loretta, Jenn, Dawn, Maureen and Dawn.
