Mario Catinella 92, of Dorchester passed on to eternal life on December 20, 2021. Mario was born in Fallo, Abruzzo, Italy, son of Gennaro and Elena Catinella. He attended middle school in Lanciano, Italy and some high school after WW II in Corleone, Sicily. Mario emigrated to the United States in 1948 where he graduated from English High School in Boston in 1950 and went on to receive his BA and Masters Degree from Boston University. He got his first teaching position at Manchester-By-The-Sea High School where he worked for 1 year before receiving a permanent position at Scituate High School. He taught at Scituate High for over 35 years and he became chairman of the Language Department, teaching French, Latin and Spanish.
Mario met the love of his life, Carmela Mariano at a friend’s wedding and together they celebrated almost 68 years of marriage. Mario enjoyed making wine every October with his dad and sons. He was also an excellent cook and shared his culinary skills with his family. He often took his children hiking and exploring in the Blue Hills. He painted in his spare time and was an avid gardener sharing the fruits and labors from his garden not only with his family but neighbors as well. Most of all Mario loved time spent with his family, from holidays and large family gatherings to anticipated annual vacations on Cape Cod. He also treated his family to many trips throughout New England and Canada. In later years Mario made many return trips to Italy introducing his children and grandchildren to the region and town he grew up in.
Devoted husband to the late Carmela (Mariano), loving father of Paula Johnson and her husband Bob of Quincy, Mark and his wife Connie of Milton, Peter and his wife Julie of Framingham, and David and his wife Rachelle of Norton. He was the proud grandfather of Christopher Johnson, Nicole Skyleson, Mark Johnson, Nicholas Catinella, Anthony Catinella, Laura Frost, Cara and Gina Catinella and Leo and Jake Catinella. And loving great-grandfather of Elena and Eric Catinella, Nathan and Michael Frost, Joseph Catinella, and Ava Johnson. Funeral Mass at St. Ann Church, Neponset, Tuesday December 28th at 1:00 pm. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Tuesday prior to Mass from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. Burial St. Michael Cemetery, Boston.
