Marilyn R. McElaney Obituary

Marilyn R. McElaney, a beacon of love and wisdom, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, surrounded by her adoring family. Born in the heart of Boston to Arthur and Henrietta Ryan, Marilyn's life was a tapestry of dedication, learning, and affection that touched the lives of all who knew her.

Marilyn's journey began as a proud alumna of Girls Latin School in Boston, where she laid the foundations of her lifelong commitment to education. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Boston College, where she not only obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees but also served with distinction in the Development Office for many years. Her passion for learning continued through her active involvement with the Osher Lifelong Learning Center (OLLI) at UMass Boston, where she remained a vibrant member until her last days.

Her adventurous spirit took her to the far corners of the world, from the exotic landscapes of Thailand, where she rode an elephant, to the ancient sands of Egypt, where she mounted a camel. These experiences only added to the rich tapestry of stories and wisdom she shared with her family and friends.

Marilyn was the heart of her family, predeceased by her beloved husband Frank. She was the loving mother of Carol Corbett and her husband Charles of Harwich Port, and Michael McElaney and his wife Lorna of Harwich. Her role as a grandmother was one she cherished deeply, providing guidance and love to Andrea McElaney of Melrose, Neil McElaney and his wife Julie of Weymouth, and Matthew Corbett and his wife Leah of Rockland. The joy of her later years was magnified by her great-grandchildren, Chip and Millie Corbett of Rockland, who will carry her legacy forward.

Marilyn's warmth extended beyond her immediate family, as she was also a cherished relative to her cousins, nieces, nephews, and a constellation of loyal and loving friends. Her kindness and thoughtful nature were the cornerstones of countless relationships that spanned decades.

An avid reader and a lifelong learner, Marilyn was a member of several book clubs and a loyal Jeopardy fan, always ready to challenge her mind and encourage others to do the same. Her intellectual curiosity was matched only by her kindness, and she was known for her thoughtful and loving demeanor.

Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals who provided care and comfort to Marilyn, including Dr. Pedro Sanchez at BWH, the Visiting Nurses of Cape Cod, and the caring staff of Mugar 3 at Cape Cod Hospital. Their dedication and compassion were a source of great comfort to Marilyn and her family.

Marilyn R. McElaney's life was a testament to the power of love, learning, and kindness. Her memory will be cherished and her legacy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a world better for her presence and a family that will always honor her name.
