Marie E. Sangiolo, 94, formerly of Milton and Stoughton, died peacefully on Friday, October 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Matulaitis Skilled Nursing in Putnam, Connecticut.
Born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Marie was the loving daughter of the late Charles and Mary Longo, and is survived by her sisters Antoinette Shea (Holbrook) and Natalie King (W. Newton).
Marie is predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Louis Sangiolo. She enjoyed eleven years living at Fuller Village in Milton, MA before moving to skilled nursing care in Putnam, CT, last March.
Marie and Louis moved to Stoughton in 1960, where they raised a family. Marie is survived by her five children: Thomas Sangiolo (Mary Jane Brennan), Donna Lynch, Louise Devin (Brian), Maria Sangiolo (Barry Jessurun), and Carl (Cheryl) Sangiolo, and was predeceased by her son-in-law Thomas Lynch. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Marie’s life centered around fun, family, loving friends, and neighbors. Her most treasured memories were of holiday family gatherings where she cooked all day and night to deliver a feast from appetizers to a spread of meats and vegetables and never failed to end the occasion with cannolis and her famous cheesecake. Marie loved to travel, cook gourmet food, bake, sew, and garden and led an active life until moving to Matulaitis in March of this year.
Family, friends, and neighbors looked forward to Marie’s cooking. Strangers lined up to purchase her scones at holiday fairs, and those who received her "Nana’s Italian Iced cookies" as gifts always hinted for more.
Marie volunteered at a local hospital and then worked as a Teacher’s Aide for 32 years at the South Elementary School with kindergarten teacher Judy Getchel. She loved working with young children and passed along her knowledge about child development to her grandchildren with fun crafts, educational games, and picture books.
