Lydia Healey Obituary

Lydia J. Healey (Grubessi), 80, of Dorchester, passed away on April 27, 2026. She was a loving and kind woman whose life was marked by devotion to her family, her pets, and the simple joys that brought her happiness.

Born on January 8, 1946, in Rijeka (Fiume), Croatia, Lydia was the daughter of the late Oscar and Casimira (Matijevich) Grubessi. She came to the United States at the age of 10, first settling in Boston’s West End before moving to Dorchester, where she resided for the remainder of her life. She carried a deep appreciation for the family who shaped her throughout her life.

Lydia was the beloved wife of the late James R. Healey Sr., with whom she shared a marriage built on love, companionship, and laughter. She was the devoted mother of James R. Healey Jr. and his wife, Amie, of Dorchester, and Scott O. Healey and his wife, Denise, of Weymouth. Lydia was a proud and loving grandmother to Matthew Healey of Weymouth and Elizabeth Healey of New Hampshire, and the late Amanda Kaplan of Bristol, Connecticut. She was also the cherished great-grandmother of Jonah and Noah Kaplan of Bristol, Connecticut. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life. Lydia was predeceased by her sister, Alida Grubessi, and is survived by her sister, Diana Boudreau of Quincy.

Lydia attended St. Gregory School in Dorchester and later earned an associate degree from Boston Business School. She went on to work as a loan officer at Citizens Bank in Quincy for 25 years, where she was known for her dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic.

Outside of her career, Lydia enjoyed a full and vibrant life. She adored her dog Lily, her cats Lucy and Peaches, and even her snake, Lou. She loved spending time outdoors, especially in the sunshine, taking walks with Lily, watching her favorite television programs, listening to Andrea Bocelli, dancing, and sharing a glass of wine.

Lydia will be remembered for her generosity, warmth, and unwavering love for those closest to her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Avenue, Milton, on Thursday, April 30, from 4:00–7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 1, at 10:30 AM at St. Agatha Parish in Milton, followed by burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
