Lorraine McDermott Obituary

Milton – Lorraine A. McDermott (Swart), passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Raised in Milton, MA, she was a graduate of Milton High School where she wore the famed “M” sweater for the Wiz Kids Cheerleading Squad. After graduating MHS in 1952, Lanie went to work at Walter Baker’s Chocolate Factory in Milton Lower Mills.  In the spring of 1957, Lanie married her High School Sweetheart, John E. McDermott, and the couple began their adventures with The United States Marine Corps.  After living away from Boston for 3 years, Lanie & John returned home with 2 little boys and bought the family home in Randolph, where they lived until 2003. Lanie was as hard-nosed as she was loyal and worked tirelessly to maintain a ‘near perfect’ home while also working many hours at RadioShack, to ensure her 5 children could afford to attain their college degrees. Lanie was predeceased by her Husband as well as two of her loving children: her eldest son, John F. McDermott, and her only daughter, Donna M. Post. She was also pre-deceased by her brother, Paul “Salty” Swart & her Grandson John E. McDermott II. Lorraine is survived by 3 sons; Michael (& Lisa) of Hanson, Daniel (& Julie) of Franklin and Robert (& Erica) of Scituate; as well as Daughter-in-Law Rachel McDermott & Son-in-Law Bruce Post.  Mrs. McDermott was also the loving Nana of 11 grandchildren: Sean (& Katie), the late John E., Michael (& Britany), Danny, Quintin, Grace, Maisy & Katie McDermott, and Jennifer, Kristin & Matthew Post, and Great-Grandmother to Maggie, Eloise, & Bridget.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Milton, Monday April 29th at 10am. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Sunday April 28th from 3-6pm. Interment at Milton Cemetery.
