Loretta M. McCarthy Obituary

Loretta M. McCarthy, a cherished sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at Windrose in Weymouth on October 1, 2025, at the age of 79. Born in Boston on September 16, 1946, to the late George and Margaret McCarthy, Loretta's vibrant spirit and loving presence touched the lives of all who knew her.

Raised in Mattapan, Loretta was a proud graduate of St. Gregory High School in Dorchester, where she formed lifelong friendships and established the foundation for her future successes. She was a dedicated professional, working for many years as an Office Manager for McDonald's Moving Company and Marshall Ogletree Organ Company. Her passion for her work was evident to her colleagues and those who benefited from her meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills.

Following her retirement, Loretta found joy in working for Champion Company, serving the Weymouth Schools in their Pre and After School Programs. Her love for the children was palpable, and she often spoke of the fulfillment she gained from her time there, sharing her warmth and wisdom with the younger generation.

Loretta was the beloved sister of George McCarthy and his partner Shirley Sprague of Hyde Park, Paul McCarthy and his wife Janet of Sandwich, and Kevin McCarthy of Weymouth. She was predeceased by her brothers, the late Joseph and John McCarthy. Her loss is deeply felt by her close friend Susan Perry of Weymouth, who, along with her many cherished nieces and nephews, fondly referred to her as crazy aunt Retta. Her playful spirit and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed.

An enthusiast of life's simple pleasures, Loretta enjoyed golfing, bowling, and traveling with friends. She had a special flair for dressing up on holidays, bringing smiles and creating memorable moments for all around her. Her sense of adventure and love for fun made her the life of any gathering. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and she will be eternally loved and never forgotten.
