Lawrence McCauley Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence J. McCauley on November 4, 2024 at the age of 77. Larry was born in Boston, Massachusetts on December 24,1946 to Henry J. McCauley and Claire Mary Madden McCauley Deibel.

He is survived by his son, Joseph L. McCauley, a Boston Police Officer. The privilege of being Joseph’s father was one of the greatest highlights of his life. In fact, the goal of witnessing Joseph’s graduation from High School and College, and finally his graduation from the Boston Police Academy gave Larry purpose and breathed life into him during years of battling health issues. He is also survived by Joseph’s mother, his former spouse, Mary Mahon.

Larry was an easy-going person who maintained a philosophy that he worked to live, rather than one who lived to work. This allowed him to work in a variety of businesses that gave him joy, including many years spent designing and building homes in California - before Joseph was born - where he worked side-by-side with construction experts. When he returned to Massachusetts, he worked for several years with the Stop & Shop Corporation. This philosophy also allowed him to spend a great deal of time with Joseph, be it school-work, sports, or fun-filled adventures, or simply playing games, reading together or watching a good show.

Larry earned an associate degree later in life. He was a voracious reader with broad interests who enjoyed long walks, the outdoors, doing genealogy and a great cup of coffee with his best friend Billy.

?Family was very important to him. As the oldest of 12 children, he never missed an opportunity to call to wish us happy Mother’s/Father’s Day or to congratulate us through milestones in our lives. He found great joy in supporting everyone. He was filled with gratitude and was very grateful for any little thing someone did for him. He was generous in his contributions to organizations that supported children, Veterans relief, organ transplants, and animal rescue.

He is survived by his sisters, Marie, Claire (Brennan), Patricia (Burdick), Mary, his younger brothers, Joseph and James Deibel and dozens of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his stepfather, Joseph Deibel Sr., his younger brothers Michael, Edward, Robert, Barry and Garry, as well as his niece Claire “Joni” Brennan.

A private service will be held on November 23, 2024. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Feel the Beat Foundation @ 337 Southern Artery, Quincy, MA 02169.
