Kathleen Ives Obituary

Kathleen Moore Ives, 80, of East Greenwich Rhode Island, born in Boston in 1942, passed peacefully at Saint Elizabeth's Home in East Greenwich on Friday, September 23, holding her beloved husband David Clifford Ives's hand. She was a very tough individual over the last few years, surprising many in the health care system with her amazing ability to bounce back from seemingly insurmountable problems, culminating in her fight with kidney disease over the last four months. She was raised in Milton, Mass and attended Fontbonne Academy for girls, and met and married her husband when he was working on his Ph.D. at MIT.
A longtime resident of Glastonbury CT, when Kathy was asked earlier this summer what she would like to be if she could return, she responded "a Glastonbury housewife" - by which she meant she was very happy with her lot in life - raising three boys and freeing her husband up to design engines for jet fighters and commercial aircraft. In later life, she completed her college education and earned her Masters’ Degree in Education at the University of Connecticut and then substitute taught in the Glastonbury School System. She enjoyed square dancing, volunteering at the South Glastonbury Public Library, and seeing her grandchildren and great-grandson.
Kathy was the beloved wife of 58 years of David Clifford Ives. She was the mother of Edward M. Ives of East Greenwich Rhode Island, Erik D. Ives and his wife Holly of Fishers, Indiana, and Timothy H. Ives and his wife Sonia of Coventry, Rhode Island. She was the grandmother of Michael, Jennifer, and Alexander Ives, Renee and David Ives, and Vivian and Sean Ives, and was the Great-Grandmother of Joshua Ives. Kathy is survived by her sister Helen (Moore) Pierotti. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Peter Moore and Helen Teresa Moore, her sister Alice (Moore) McCarthy, and her brother Thomas Moore (who passed at the age of six, which resulted in her being understandably somewhat spoiled by her parents, as the baby of the family - then, fortunately, her husband David took good care of her the rest of life, right to the end).
Funeral Mass at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Friday, Oct 14 morning at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., MILTON Friday morning prior to the Mass at 9:30 am. Burial at Milton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the South Glastonbury Public Library, PO Box 169, South Glastonbury, CT 06073
