Karen A. Melanson (Dowling) of Whitman passed away February 8th. Born in Boston, she was raised in South Boston and graduated from South Boston High School. She worked as the Office Manager for Air Cleaning Specialist in Hanover for many years before retiring. Karen enjoyed reading and gardening and spent hours in her beautiful backyard. Beloved wife and best friend for 54 years of the late Roy J. Melanson. Together they loved and spoiled their dogs Max, Koko, Lucy, Lola and Lily. Daughter of the late John and Marie Dowling and sister of the late Michael Dowling. Caring aunt to the late Karen Rosher and her husband Lawrence Rosher. Grandnieces Danielle Cappiello, Michaella Slicia and Alexandra Rosher. Loving sister-in-law of Diane and the late Francis McAlpine, Dorothea Shea, Betty and the late James Shea, Brian and Randi Shea. Cherished aunt of Kerri McClellan and Alex Shea Will. Loving cousin of Patricia Hurley. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Karen was kind, generous, thoughtful and fashionable. Karen and Roy were usually the best dressed at any occasion. She was loving and cherished her lifelong friendships with Marilyn Fitzgerald, Joan Smith and the late Helen Fossa. The late Betty Connolly was her best friend since childhood and her partner in crime. Karen and Roy loved to travel with friends and spend time with family. Karen was fortunate to have wonderful neighbors and enjoyed her regular walks with Maura. Relatives and friends invited to attend a funeral service at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Saturday at 12:00 noon. Visiting hours prior to the service Saturday 10:00am to 12 noon. Private Burial.
