Joseph L. Proulx (Joe, Buddy, Joe Pro, Pit) passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on May 6th 2026. He was born in Freeport, ME, and lived a life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and steady dedication in all that he did.
He was predeceased by his much-loved bride Margaret A. (Slavin) Proulx (Little One), his mother Eva Proulx, his brother Omer Lemeiux and his nephew Gerald Lemeiux. His absence will be felt deeply by his daughter Julie McKinnon and her husband Jake of Dorchester, and his son David Proulx and his wife Lauri of Wilmington. His greatest pride was spoiling his grandchildren - Max McKinnon and his partner Elizabeth Anderson, Molly Hutchinson and her husband Steve, Katherine McKinnon, Ian Proulx and Quinn Proulx. He especially reveled in his future role as great grandfather to Hallie Kate Hutchinson. His family was the center of his world, and he was never happier than when he was surrounded by loved ones.
Joe grew up in Lewiston, Maine, attended St. Dominic High School and soon after graduation chose to serve his country by joining the Air Force. Upon leaving the Air Force he used the skills he had gained to begin a life in Boston – building a career in finance and raising his family in Roslindale. Upon retirement Joe and Little One moved to Weymouth where they enjoyed nights on the back deck, travelling, visiting friends and spending time with their grandchildren. In addition to those activities, Joe enjoyed making furniture for friends and family, reading anything he could get his hands on, collecting mugs, a tough crossword done in pen, sandbagging in rummy and cavorting in various absurd headwear.
Joe will be remembered for his gentle nature, his thoughtful spirit, his wry sense of humor and the warmth he brought to those around him. He was a man who led with kindness and who made a lasting impression through his steady presence and caring heart. His family and friends will remember him not only for the life he lived, but also for the example he set through his love, humility, and devotion.
