John "Jack" M. Moran, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, at Milton Hospital. Born on July 5, 1941, in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Luke and Annie (O’Connor) Moran.
Jack lived a full and generous life, marked by his loving and selfless nature. Jack grew up in Mattapan and was a proud graduate of Saint Mary’s High School of Brookline. He carried the values of hard work and commitment throughout his life which led to him honorably serving in the United States Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him a profound sense of duty and patriotism. His dedication to his country continued throughout his life as he became an active member of the Fogg Roberts American Legion Post #78 in Hyde Park and ultimately held the position of Commander from 2002 through 2010. He was deeply committed to his fellow veterans as he dedicated his time and effort to honor the fallen by placing flags on graves at cemeteries every Memorial Day.
Jack's professional career was spent as a top sales executive for General Electric Lighting, where his charisma and skill landed him many awards including trips across the globe. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and expertise by mentoring Northeastern University students in the highly regarded Co-Op program. However, his work did not solely define him; Jack's spirit of service was evident through his involvement with several non-profit organizations including volunteering his time to help local senior citizens with their tax preparation. His affiliations with the Quincy VFW, Moose Lodge, and the Elks were a testament to his deeply rooted sense of community and camaraderie. Jack's presence in these organizations was not only felt in his service but also in the warmth and friendship he extended to all.
After his well-deserved retirement, Jack was able to enjoy some of his favorite leisure activities. Being an avid golfer and a member of Granite Links Golf Course, he relished the game and the friendships forged on the greens. He especially loved golfing with his wife, Donna and his children and grandchildren. Winters were a special time for Jack as he enjoyed the warmth and community in Venice, FL, a stark contrast to the brisk New England weather he knew so well.
Above all, Jack's heart belonged to his family. He was the beloved husband of Donna H. Moran (Hanson), and a devoted father to his children, John M. Moran Jr. and his wife Donna of Mansfield, Michelle M. Moran of Sudbury, and Beth A. Kidder (and her husband, the late Jon Kidder) of Wareham. Jack took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to John "Jake" Moran, Kevin Moran, Kyle Moran, Tyler Moran, Sage Kidder, Brooke Kidder, and Andi Kidder. His love, wisdom, and humor will live on in them. As a proud grandfather he enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, plays and shows.
Though predeceased by his siblings Mary Langley, Jane Aroian, Paul Moran, Francis Moran, Nancy Kennedy, and Margaret Moran, Jack's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his family including numerous nieces and nephews who knew him as a loving and generous uncle.
John "Jack" M. Moran's life story was a combination of his devotion to his country, his community, and most importantly, his family. His was a life that exemplified the very best of what it means to be loving and selfless. As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the joy and love he brought into the world, and though he may be gone, his spirit will continue to inspire those who carry his memory in their hearts. As we say farewell to Jack, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man deeply loved. He will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
