John Picard Obituary

John Patrick Picard
March 13, 1959 – October 6, 2025

QUINCY – John P. Picard passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after courageously living with a disabling medical condition for more than twenty years.

Born in Quincy on March 13, 1959, John was the fifth of six children of the late Mary (Tirrell) and Robert Picard. A lifelong Quincy resident, he had a spirited childhood filled with boating adventures in Quincy Harbor and athletic success in basketball and hockey. One of his proudest accomplishments was completing the 94th Boston Marathon in 1990.

A 1977 graduate of Quincy High School, John attended the University of Massachusetts Boston and went on to build a successful twenty-year career in automotive parts management with Oste Chevrolet, Howard Chevrolet, and Cadillac of Norwood, where he rose to serve as New England Regional Sales Director. His career was cut short by a traumatic brain injury in 2004, but his determination and grace never wavered.

A devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 31 years, John—“a friend of Bill”—was known for his unwavering commitment to sobriety and service. Through the Snug Harbor group and Project Turnabout, he mentored and supported countless others, leaving a lasting impact on the recovery community.

John will be remembered for his humor, intelligence, and big-hearted personality. Even through illness, he faced life with positivity, wit, and deep love for his family and caregivers.

He is survived by his daughter Kristen Gumz and her husband Nelio of Weymouth; former partner and lifelong friend Catherine Picard of Braintree; and granddaughters Annabelle Nicolar, Talina Gumz, and Madeline Picard Howard. He was predeceased by his daughter Nicole and siblings Linda, Joseph, Brian, and David. He is also survived by his sister Mary Picard and her husband Peter Reilly of Rye, NH; nieces Roxann Sheehan, Marissa Reilly, and Christina Kozlowski; nephews Robert Picard and Colin Reilly; and sister-in-law Kathleen Picard.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts.

Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave Milton Friday morning October 10th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.
