John J. Shea, a retired Boston Police Officer, passed away peacefully at his home in Quincy on Friday, May 30, 2025. He was 85 years old.
He was the devoted husband of Kathleen (McNulty) Shea for almost 39 years. Loving father of Brendan Shea, Kevin Shea and his wife Lindsay of Abington. Also survived by his 2 daughters, Donna & husband Chris Pineau of Hanover, Maureen & husband Chris Little of Milton and son Brian & wife Debbi Shea of Weymouth. He was the cherished grandfather to Christopher, Bella, Charlie & Nick. Loving brother of Denise Keliipio of Oregon, the late Mary Sweeney, Catherine Nabstedt, James Shea & Patrick Shea. Additionally survived by many nieces, nephews & dear friends.
After graduating from Don Bosco High School in 1958, he furthered his education at Boston State College earning a Bachelor’s degree. In 1960 John honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He later achieved a Master’s degree from Western New England College.
John was an avid reader, enjoyed travelling with family, & loved dining out. One of his favorite meals, liver & onions! Later in his retirement of 37 years from the BPD, he enjoyed sitting on the benches in Southie with friends where he grew up. He was often seen many times bringing his beloved grand puppy, Stella, who was his #1 fan.
Those who knew John will always remember him for his endless jokes & sayings. Some of those being “Don’t strain your voice through the screen door”, “Glad to be seen” & “Ravioli”.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 4pm to 7pm at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Avenue, Milton. Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery will be private.
