John Donahue Obituary

Donahue, John J. III (Jack), of Squantum, formerly of Dorchester and North Weymouth, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 6. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Ann Gilraine Donahue.  Nephew of Daniel J. Barry of Jamaica Plain, brother-in-law of Michael Gilraine, (Donna), of Norwell.  He is also survived by his nephews Matthew McQuaid, (Jenn), of Dorchester, Mark McQuaid, (Lauren), of Norwell and Michael Gilraine, (Marina), of Hanson.  He was the adoring great uncle of Isabelle McQuaid, Maeve McQuaid, Brendan McQuaid and Aubrey Gilraine.  He is predeceased by his parents John J. Donahue II and Ethel Rogers Donahue, his sister Nancy Donahue Dargan, his uncle Robert E. Donahue, and his beloved sister-in-law Meg McQuaid.  Air Force Veteran, Vietnam Era.  Jack was an avid New England sports fan, especially the Patriots.  Jack enjoyed playing golfing, and loved watching golf.  At one point in his life, skiing was a passion, and he skied at many resorts throughout New England, as well as a memorable ski adventure in Canada.  Jack also loved his yearly trips to the coast of Maine, and time spent in Chatham with his family.  In recent years his most memorable times were spent with his grand nieces and grand nephew.   

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jack’s memory to the Division of Epilepsy at Boston Children’s Hospital, a cause close to Jack’s heart.  Contributions can be made at bostonchildrens.org/givenow, or by check to Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA  02215-5301.  Please include honoree’s name in memo line.  Arrangements are private.
