John J. Fahey Obituary
John J. Fahey, age 88, of Quincy, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at Plymouth Crossings Assisted Living in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Born in South Boston on June 6, 1936, John's life was a testament to dedication, kindness, and the joy he found in the company of his family and friends.
After a childhood spent in the South Boston neighborhood he loved, John graduated from Gate of Heaven High School in South Boston, later furthering his education at Northeastern University. His professional life was marked by a commendable 35-year tenure as an accountant with Boston Edison, from which he retired in 1994. His work ethic and friendly demeanor made him a well-respected figure among his colleagues and coworkers.
John served his country in the Army National Guard of Massachusetts, dedicating three years of military service with honor and distinction. He was honorably discharged in January of 1961.
John was the beloved husband of the late Fay E. (Hartnett) and a devoted father to his three sons: John J. Fahey Jr. of Kingston, Mark W. Fahey and his wife Cynthia of Plymouth, and Matthew J. Fahey of Manvel, Texas. His role as a father was one, he cherished deeply, providing guidance, support, and love in equal measure.
He was also a loving brother to Henry Fahey of Dedham and the late Paul Fahey of Quincy. His familial bonds extended to his role as a doting grandfather to Graysen, Quinlin, and Declan, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into his life.
John's presence was marked by a warm friendliness that drew people to him. He had a gift for making those around him feel valued and at ease, a trait that endeared him to many. His laughter was a common sound at family gatherings, and his advice was always sought after and given with care.
Known for his passionate love of music, John found joy in playing the piano, both for himself and for others. His home was often brought to life with the sound of music, as he transformed family gatherings into impromptu performances, playing Big Band, Jazz and his favorite Gershwin melodies.
In his retirement, John enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife and friends. Highlighted trips included California, Ireland, Nova Scotia, Costa Rica, Hilton Head, Texas, as well as many trips to Florida. He enjoyed fishing and boating with his sons and grandchildren.
John's life journey was one of quiet strength and unwavering love for his family. He was deeply loyal to his friends and generous to a fault. He had a playful and loving wit that endeared people to him. He will be profoundly missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him and will be remembered for the light he brought into the lives of those around him.
As we bid farewell to John J. Fahey, we reflect on a life well-lived and the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of integrity, compassion, and enduring family bonds. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, just as his presence did.
