Joan M. Deveney (née Stevens), of Milton passed away December 7th at the Boston Medical Center. Born in Boston she was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Jeremiah E. Burke High School and Boston State Teachers College. Joan's true passion lay in her role as a devoted mother and an active advocate for children with disabilities.
Joan was predeceased by her former husband, Paul F. Deveney, and is survived by her children: Steven Deveney of Fairhaven, Lynn Curry, and Mark Deveney of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Deveney, Ava, Parker, Ailish, Riley, Rowan, and Keegan. Joan was also a sister to the late John Stevens, Dorothy Stevens, Marie MacSwain, Barbara MacSwain and Evelyn Whittle. Joan is also survived by her sister-in-law Katherine Caladin.
Joan regularly attended mass at St. Agatha’s church with her niece, Barbara Lenane, and her unwavering faith helped her overcome many of life’s challenges. Joan’s wit, inquisitive nature and lively spirit will be truly missed. Joan’s family would like to extend a heartful thank you to the Boston Medical Center and their incredibly kind and compassionate care to Joan over the years.
Relatives and friends invited to attend a Memorial Mass at St. Agatha Church, Milton Saturday December 16th at 10:30 am. Burial private.
