Obituary

A. Irene Gibbons, age 92 of Braintree, formerly of Hyde Park and Dorchester, passed away peacefully. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna (DiCenso) Susi and grew up in Dorchester. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, Edward, and survived by their four children; Edward J. and his wife Maureen Gibbons of Kingston; Susan M. and her husband David A. Elmasian of Braintree, Cathy I. and her husband Paul M. Shannon of Stoneham, and the late Kevin Gibbons. Irene is also survived by ten grandchildren, Karlee Chirillo and Brady Gibbons; Curtis, Corey and Casey Gibbons; Michael and Thomas Elmasian and Daniel, and his wife Bridget, Kelly and Jennifer Shannon. 

 

Irene graduated from Jeremiah Burke High School and worked seven years for the National Shawmut Bank of Boston. The following years were spent rearing her children, reading, traveling, and gardening. She is a former Regent and District Deputy of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Secretary of the Past Regents Club. She was a member of the Sons of Italy, the Italian American Cultural Organization and Secretary of the Red Hat Society. 

 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Tuesday March 14th, at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, South Braintree Square at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Blue Hill Cemetery.
