Helena (Mamet) Slattery Obituary

Helena "Helen" Slattery, a cherished beacon of warmth and love in her community, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on March 19, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on February 17, 1947, to the late Leon and Leonarda Mamet of Poland, Helen's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, friends, and a career that spanned several decades.

Helen grew up in a household filled with love and resilience, values that she carried throughout her life. After graduating from Southie High School in 1964, she pursued further education at the Boston Business School, earning a Certificate Degree in business in 1966. With a strong foundation in education, Helen embarked on a fulfilling career at Gillette Razor Company in Customer Service, where she quickly became known for her friendly and kind demeanor.

In 1972, Helen's life blossomed further when she married the love of her life, Paul B. Slattery. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and partnership until his untimely passing in 1996. Their union was blessed with two daughters, the late Adrienne, whose husband Gregory Fine of Walpole continues to cherish her memory, and Meghan Slattery, who, alongside her husband Eric, also resides in Walpole.

Following the birth of her children, Helen took a hiatus from her professional life to focus on her growing family. As her children matured, she returned to Gillette, culminating her career in the Benefits Department. Her colleagues remember her as the epitome of a team player, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear.

Helen's siblings, the late George Mamet, whose wife Maureen of Marshfield keeps his spirit alive, and the late Tadeusz "Teddy" Mamet, whose wife Maureen of Milton remembers him fondly, were integral parts of her life. As a loving Nana, Helen's joy was multiplied by her grandchildren, Brendan, Evan, and Nora Fine, and Maeve and Lena Slattery whom she loved to the moon and back. Their lives have been profoundly shaped by her loving presence and the lessons of kindness she instilled in them.

A life-long best friendship with Agnes "Cookie" O'Connor and her husband Patrick of Dedham was a source of countless happy memories for Helen. Together, they raised their children side by side. Helen and Cookie spent many nights raising their glasses to the tunes of Irish music in various pubs.  She also cherished time with her friends Billy and Maureen Ryan and many other lifelong friends especially her “Polish Friends”

Helen's early years with Paul were filled with adventure and travel, as the couple made it a point to take their children on a special trip every year. These experiences created a treasure trove of family stories that will continue to be told for generations.

Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, and friendly. She was very resilient, despite everything she was handed in life, she always kept a smile on her face and maintained loving relationships in her life.  Helen's legacy is one of unconditional love and the bonds she nurtured. Her presence was a comforting constant in the lives of her many loving nieces, nephews, and friends, who will miss her dearly.

Helen's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one person can have on so many. As we bid farewell to Helena Slattery, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a spirit that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories passed down and the love that endures within her family and the community she so dearly loved.
