Helen Garvey Obituary

Helen L. Garvey, age 88, a beacon of strength and love, passed away peacefully at home in Milton surrounded by her loving family on February 24, 2025. Born in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester and lived in Milton from the time she was married until her passing.  Helen's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of family bonds. She was the beloved wife of the late Attorney John M. Garvey. They were married for 45 years and together they forged a legacy of love and commitment that was evident in every aspect of Helen's life.

Educated at Notre Dame Academy and Emmanuel College, Helen possessed a passion for learning that was only surpassed by her desire to teach and nurture others. She dedicated many years of her life to educating young minds at several inner-cityschools such as the Shaw School and the Mattahunt Elementary in Dorchester, where she worked as a School Teacher for the Boston Public Schools up until her retirement. Her devotion to her students was unwavering, and she touched the lives of many with her compassionate and patient teaching style.

Helen's family was the center of her universe. She was a loving mother to John P. Garvey and his wife Julie of Wellesley, Lawrence P. Garvey and his wife Kathleen of South Weymouth, Michaela C. Martini and her husband Thomas of Falmouth, Patrick J. Garvey of Milton, and Kevin P. Garvey of Milton. Her role as a mother was one she cherished deeply and the values she instilled in her children will live on through them.

The family circle extended to her siblings, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond. She was the sister of Richard Quirk of Dennisport, Mary Marks of Cape Coral, FL, and was predeceased by her siblings Cecelia Earle and Lawrence Quirk. Helen's love also encompassed her nine grandchildren, who will miss her dearly but will continue to be guided by the wisdom and affection she generously provided.

Helen's life was one of devout faith. A longtime parishioner of St. Agatha Parish in Milton, she lived her Catholic faith with fervor and grace. Her commitment to her church reflected her overall approach to life—full of love, kindness, and a spirit that inspired all who knew her.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Helen would describe her as loving, kind, and faith-filled. She approached every day with a heart full of gratitude and a smile that could light up a room. Her gentle presence was a source of comfort and strength to her family, friends, and all who had the honor of being part of her life.

As we say goodbye to Helen L. Garvey, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy that will continue to flourish in the hearts of those she loved. Her spirit, characterized by warmth and generosity, will never be forgotten. Helen's journey on earth may have come to an end, but the impact of her love and the echo of her laughter will resonate for eternity. Rest in peace, dear Helen, knowing that your spirit lives on in the countless lives you touched with your extraordinary love and kindness.
