Gertrude Barden Obituary

BARDEN, Gertrude E. (Coakley) Of Milton, July 16th, age 101. Wife of the late William M. Mother of Patricia and her late husband Patrick Hynes of Milton, William J. of Milton and Paul and his wife Janice Barden of Taunton. Sister of the late William I. Coakley. Loving Nana of Kristin, Jay, Colleen, Christopher, Cara, and Kelly and her two great-grandchildren, Piper and Quinn. Gertrude passed her 101st birthday last month (June 29th), driving until the age of 95. She had 1 brother, William, retired from the Boston Fire Department, who passed away in 2019 at the age 102.Gertrude married William in 1945 in St. Margaret’s Church, Dorchester, and worked at the Charlestown Navy Shipyard during the war, and later for the Massachusetts State Division of employment security.  She loved parties and holidays, spending them with her many relatives.  She was involved in a group called “The Club” for many years, which consisted of childhood friends gathering for card games once a month.  She was a member of the  Castle Island Association for many years, where she enjoyed going on trips.  Later in life she was part of the Cunningham Woman’s bowling league, where she was known to have a painstakingly slow hook, which, just as you thought was going to be a gutterball, made it’s way back to knock the pins down.  Her faith was strong. Always attending Mass, until the end.  Visiting hours from the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., MILTON, Monday evening 4-8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth church, Milton, Tuesday morning at 10. Burial in Milton Cemetery
