George E. Slyva, known affectionately to all as George, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at the age of 70. Born on March 6, 1954, in Boston, Massachusetts, George was a long-time resident of Dorchester and Milton, and a cherished member of his community.

The son of the late Michael F. Slyva and Helen M. (Foley), George grew up in a world filled with love and strong family ties. He was the proud father of Bethany H. Slyva and her boyfriend Charlie DiRusso of Quincy, Garrett Slyva and his girlfriend Kara Zebrowski of Brainerd, Minnesota, and the late Jonathan Slyva. His legacy continues through his loving sister, Joannie Auvil and her husband Leon of Braintree, and the late Michael Slyva of Boston, and he is remembered fondly by his many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have been considered his godchildren.

George was a graduate of South Boston High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from UMASS Boston in 1976. George's professional life was marked by over three decades of dedicated service as an assistant clerk for the Supreme Judicial Court for the State of Massachusetts. His hard work and passion for his role were recognized in 2002 when he was honored as "Clerk of the Year in Massachusetts."

Outside of his professional endeavors, George was a man of many interests and an active member of his community. He was a familiar face among the L-Street Brownies, a group of winter swimmers with a storied history in Boston. An avid runner, George found joy in the simplicity of a good run, whether it was along the scenic paths of Nantasket, Carson Beach and the Boston Marathon Route or the familiar streets of his neighborhood. He was also an enthusiastic mall walker and an active participant at the gym, maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle well into his later years.

George's love for Boston was evident in his frequent excursions into the city, often taking the train to wander about and soak in the vibrant urban atmosphere. He was a regular at the L-Street Bath House and the South Shore YMCA, places where he not only exercised but also fostered lasting friendships. George's spirited nature led him to seize every opportunity to enjoy life's simpler pleasures, like indulging in Sullivan's famed 50 cent hot dogs.

Described by those who knew him as friendly, loving, and spirited, George was the kind of person who would do anything to help a friend. His loving personality and generous spirit touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.

George's presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His laughter, his unwavering support, and his ability to bring joy to any situation were gifts to those around him. As we bid farewell to George E. Slyva, we celebrate a life lived with passion, kindness, and a deep sense of community. His memory will continue to inspire us all to live fully and love generously.

George's life will be commemorated in a private ceremony attended by family and close friends, as they gather to honor a man who was truly one of a kind. His spirit will forever walk the beaches he loved and the streets of the city that was home to his heart.
