Francis "Frank" MacQuarrie Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Francis J. "Frank" MacQuarrie, 86, of Milton, announces his passing on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at home surrounded by his devoted family.

Born in Roxbury January 23, 1939, to Margaret (MacEachen) and Murdock MacQuarrie, Frank grew up across from Wainwright Park in Dorchester where he developed his lifelong love of sports. Known affectionately as "Zeke" to many, he graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, in the North End of Boston where he excelled in baseball and football, as third baseman and quarterback. Frank received the school’s “Most Outstanding Athlete Award” and was also voted All Catholic enabling him to play at Fenway Park and later played professional baseball in the minor leagues. While in the United States Marine Corps Reserves he boxed and remained undefeated. In his later years he was a longtime member of the Thursday Knights Racquetball league.

Frank was a proud member of the Boston Police Force for 34 years, first serving as a patrolman and ultimately being assigned as a BPD detective on the Joint FBI Bank Robbery Task Force. He cherished the lifelong friends he had with the police and FBI. After retirement, he enjoyed driving for the Milton Council of Aging.

He leaves his wife of 63 years, Bernadette (Mee) MacQuarrie; his children, Anne Romano and her husband Danny of Hanover, Thomas MacQuarrie of Quincy, Joseph MacQuarrie of Maidenhead, U.K., and Jeanne Lundon of Milton; his grandchildren, Joseph Romano and Danielle (Romano) Murray, William and Christina MacQuarrie, Marie-Sophie and Amaranth MacQuarrie, and Liam Lundon; his sisters, Mary Jamieson of Dorchester and Isabel Carey and her husband Joe of Quincy; his in-laws, Mary and the late William Whelan of Falmouth, Anne and the late Robert Evers of San Antonio, Texas, Frances and the late Ronald Carrara of Marshfield; his sister-in-law, Marcie MacQuarrie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Allen MacQuarrie (KIA USMC), Christine Kelly, and Donald MacQuarrie, and his brothers-in-law John Gerald Kelly and Leo Jamieson.

Frank suffered from Alzheimer's for many years and handled his illness with dignity. He exuded and radiated a warmth and love that touched all those he came into contact with, displaying tremendous and heartfelt love for his wife Bernadette, his siblings, children, grandchildren, and friends alike. He was blessed with a wonderful disposition and incredible sense of humor. He lived with exemplary honesty and integrity, and had a humble faith. He was well loved by all who knew him - a wonderful man.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at CarePro of Weymouth, Christina and Carla, and Helen and Mika of the NVNA Hospice.
