On Monday, September 26, 2022, Evan Zane Alter, loving partner and father of two beautiful boys, passed away at age fifty-four, after battling pancreatic cancer.
An avid reader and home cook, Evan spent much of his free time filling the house with the smells of fresh breads, cookies and recipes drawn from a variety of cultures and in nicer weather grilling all manner of things out on the deck.
Evan also had a deep and abiding love of music and enjoyed everything from The Beatles and The Grateful Dead to Lou Reed and The Velvet Underground. He played guitar for years and humbly believed “he wasn’t quite there yet” with his musical skills. Though we at home would beg to differ.
After accepting a temp position with State Street Bank and Trust, Evan met his love, Erinkate O’Donnell, with whom he bonded over a mutual love of music, Thai food and the TV show M*A*S*H. After years of friendship the two began a long-distance dating relationship and Evan eventually moved across the country so he and Erinkate could continue their journey together in San Diego, CA. They eventually made the move back east to settle in Boston and later welcomed their boys, Finn and Cian, into their family.
Evan was best known for his infectious laugh, big smile, his fun and silly dad jokes, and his love of his hometown of Roosevelt NJ. He would discuss Roosevelt and all of its unique joys with anyone who would listen as it was his favorite place and one whose influences, he carried with him all his life.
Professionally, as a Customer Success Manager with Okta, he was well liked and respected by his many colleagues and teammates and was often praised for both his positivity and dedication to the team and its clients.
He is survived by his partner, Erinkate O’Donnell, and their sons, Finn and Cian O’Donnell of Scituate MA, his mother Judith Goetzmann (née Grabel) of NJ, his brother Justin Goetzmann of NJ, his sister Theadora Quible (née Goetzmann), her husband David Quible and their two daughters, Emma and Caroline Quible, of MD, his aunt Hadar Grabel of MA, his father Burton Alter of CT, and many beloved members of his extended family and dear friends across the US and overseas.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday October 23, 2022, from 11a.m. - 3p.m. in the The Grand Army Hall located at 353 Country Way, Scituate, MA 02066. All are welcome. In lieu of giving flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation in memory of Evan to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Boston. https://secure3.convio.net/bidmc/site/Donation2?4902.donation=form1&df_id=4902&mfc_pref=T
