Elvyra Manning Obituary

Elvyra Manning (Iljinas), a loving, kind, and thoughtful woman, passed away on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and the many memories she created throughout her life. She will be remembered for the warmth she shared with everyone around her, the strength she carried through life, and the devotion she gave so freely to her family.

Born to the late Walter and Marta Iljanis, Elvyra came to America from Lithuania at the age of 9, beginning a new chapter of life with courage and hope. She built her life in Boston, first in South Boston and later in Dorchester, where she lived for about 60 years. Through the years, she became deeply rooted in her community and in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her journey from Lithuania to the United States reflected resilience, determination, and a quiet faith in the future.

Elvyra was the beloved wife of the late James E. Manning. Together, they shared a life marked by love, family, and enduring commitment. She was a devoted mother to Marianne Manning of Seabrook, New Hampshire; Susan Manning of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and her husband Bob Simons; Leesa Manning of Quincy; Dana Manning of Weymouth; Tricia Manning-Harvey and her husband Mick of Quincy; and Eric Manning of Dorchester. Her children were the center of her world, and she took great pride in each of them. She was also the loving sister of the late Lydia Marcelonis.

Family meant everything to Elvyra, and she found her greatest joy in the time she spent with her children and her eight grandchildren. She cherished their visits, their laughter, and the special moments they shared together. Her presence brought comfort, and her love was felt in the meals she prepared, the conversations she held, and the steady support she offered throughout the years. She was the heart of her family in many ways, and her legacy will live on in the generations that follow her.

Elvyra had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, and watching the news, always keeping up with current events and the world around her. She loved to cook, and her kitchen was a place of care, tradition, and welcome. Her meals were made with love and often brought family together in meaningful ways. These everyday interests reflected her thoughtful nature and her desire to stay connected to both her loved ones and the world beyond her home.

Those who knew Elvyra will remember her as a woman of kindness and grace. She had a gentle spirit and a loving heart, and she treated others with compassion and respect. Her thoughtful nature was evident in the way she listened, cared, and gave of herself. She created a sense of comfort wherever she went, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Elvyra’s life was a testament to perseverance, devotion, and love. From her early years in Lithuania to her long life in Massachusetts, she met each chapter with dignity and strength. She leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and a lifetime of memories that will be treasured always. Though she is no longer with them, her influence remains in the values she passed on, the traditions she upheld, and the love she gave so generously.

Her family and friends will forever hold her in their hearts. Elvyra Manning will be remembered not only for the life she lived, but for the kindness she showed, the love she shared, and the lasting example she set for those who follow.
