Dorene Walsh Obituary

Funeral Mass at St. Pius X Church, Milton, Thursday, October 24th at 11:00 am. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave Milton, Thursday morning prior to the Mass from 8:00 am to 10:15 am. Burial will follow the Mass at Milton Cemetery.

Dorene A. Walsh (Juster), cherished wife, mother, sister, Mimi, and friend, passed away after a brief illness on October 18, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 15, 1954, in Weymouth, MA, to the late Joseph Juster and Margaret (Holt), Dorene's life was a testament to her loving nature, intellectual curiosity, and unwavering commitment to her family.

A proud graduate of Archbishop Williams, class of 1972, Dorene earned her degree in Political Science from UMASS Boston. Her academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career, in sales, consulting, and ultimately as a Managing Director in the financial services industry with Cambridge Associates. Dorene's professional journey was marked by determination, dedication and excellence. Yet her family always came first.

In 1972, Dorene met the love of her life, John V. Walsh of Milton. In the ensuing decade, their friendship blossomed into romance and the couple married in 1985. Together, they raised three sons: John J. Walsh and his wife Chelsea of Connecticut, Matthew Walsh of Milton, and Kevin Walsh of Connecticut. As the proud CEO of her family, Dorene guided with love and shaped with skill the lives of her children. She was similarly delighted to shower her recently-arrived grandson, John Ryan Walsh, with unbounded love and encouragement.

Dorene's siblings, Paul Juster and his late wife Ruthie of Naples, Florida, Mark Juster and his life partner Donna of New Hampshire, and Joe Juster and his wife Anne of Shaker Heights, Ohio, will remember Dorene as a devoted sister who offered grace, support and laughter in equal measure. Her nieces, nephews, and wide circle of friends were blessed to experience her generosity, warmth, and the special bond she formed with each one of them.

Dorene was a woman of fierce passion, with a thirst for knowledge and a nuanced understanding the world. To that end, each morning before 7:00, she devoured the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Boston Globe.  Then, quietly and modestly Dorene shared her well-informed opinions with worthy listeners. She also read novels, biographies, history, and political journals. Her reading informed her empathy, resulting in a remarkable ability to forge enduring friendships with a diverse array of people from all walks of life, including her professional colleagues, fellow gym-goers, yoga practitioners, book group members, and, in her retirement, the elementary school students at St. Mary’s of the Hills and the Parkinson’s’ sufferers with whom she volunteered.

Dorene never shied away from new experiences, facing them head-on, never afraid to fail. She was the foundation of her family, making the holidays, especially Christmas and birthdays memorable with her exceptional cooking and baking skills. Her soups, bolognese and meatballs, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake with vanilla frosting delighted her family and friends.

To her nieces and nephews, Dorene was an exemplar of elegant beauty and loving kindness. In return, they simply adored her. Daughter-in-law Chelsea filled with love a special place in Dorene's heart as the daughter she never had and, of course, Jack Ryan’s mom. Dorene's kindness extended to everyone she met, leaving a lasting impression of love and joy.

Dorene's legacy is one of love, laughter, professional achievement, and the selfless dedication to her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a beacon of kindness and a source of unwavering support. Her spirit will continue to inspire those fortunate to have known her, who shall forever treasure her memory.
