David P. McGillicuddy

David P. McGillicuddy passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025 at the age of 84. He was born in Boston to Leo and Mary (Philbrick) McGillicuddy.

He was the beloved husband of the late Linda (Foley) McGillicuddy, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. He leaves behind a legacy in his children, David and his wife, Brenda of Braintree, Dana and her husband, Christopher of Braintree, and Mark and his wife, Mary Beth of Norwell. His role as a proud grandfather to Ryan, Dylan, Ridley, Lauren, and Murron was one of his greatest joys, each moment spent with them a cherished memory.

David was proud to be from Dorchester, the youngest of 4 children growing up on Melville Ave. and spending many hours at Howard Johnson’s and Tenean Beach. David was predeceased by his brothers, Leo Paul and Robert McGillicuddy and his sister, Judith McGillicuddy. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. His family extended beyond blood to include countless friends.

Dave was always a hard worker. As graduate of Jamaica Plain High School, he became an Air National Guard reservist and held numerous part-time jobs while simultaneously working fulltime at the New England Telephone Company, all to support his growing family. He began as a journeyman working his way to management in community relations and as a result earned a Bachelor’s Degree from UMASS Boston in Communications. When he and Linda married, they raised their family in Quincy where Dave was able to satiate his passion for politics and never missed a chance to express his opinion. He enjoyed lively discussions that were as much about connecting with others as there were about the issues of the day. His involvement with the Knights of Columbus and the Quincy Elks reflected his deep commitment to community and fellowship.

David enjoyed renovation projects and was often looking ahead for his next job. He found solace and satisfaction in working on his house, a symbol of the safe haven he provided for his family. His dog, Samantha, was a source of joy and companionship, who was often by his side wherever he went.

Traveling with his wife, Linda, was among his favorite pastimes, exploring new places and making memories to last a lifetime. His garden was a labor of love and his tomato plants were an obsession.

Dave’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps. He will be deeply missed, but the light he brought into the world will never fade.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, January 23, at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, MA, 02186, from 4:00-7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass in celebration of David's life will be held at St. Mary's Church in Quincy at 11:00 am on Friday, January 24. Burial will follow the Mass at Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy, where David will be laid to rest.
