Daniel E. Meehan

Daniel E. Meehan of Hingham passed away unexpectedly December 19th .  Born in Boston, he was raised in Pembroke and graduated from Silver Lake Regional High School.  Dan went on to Quincy College, graduated from Suffolk University and was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. He worked as a Self-employed Carpenter for many years.

Beloved son of Margaret A. “Rita” (Lovett) Meehan of Hingham and the late Edward D. Meehan. Brother of Kristen M. Sauter of Scituate.  Uncle of Liam M., Harrison E., Madeleine M., and Claire E. Sauter. He is survived by an extensive network of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a great Uncle, Denis “Harvey” Hassan who was a prominent support for Dan all of his life. His Aunt Mary, Uncle Don and Rockport was where Dan’s always said were his “happiest memories”.

Dan joined the Naval Reserves and served time as E-3 and Airman during the Gulf War. Upon retirement from the Navy he was granted full military honors. Dan was well known and active with Veteran’s organizations.

Dan pursued a degree at Quincy College in Paralegal Studies and completed his Bachelor degree in Applied Legal Studies at Suffolk University. He had always hoped to return to school and pursue a law degree.

Dan loved to fish, explore towns and places with short/day trips and was a wealth of local and historical knowledge. He loved his annual visit to the Navy’s Great Pond Adventure Center in Maine with his family, finding peace and serenity in the wilderness. Dan spent countless hours with his two nieces and two nephews and was an extremely important part of their lives teaching them to fish and enjoy the little things in life. He never missed a sport event and was the loudest guy cheering for his family. Dan despised shopping. 

He will be deeply missed.

Relatives and friends invited to attend a Funeral Service at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home 326 Granite Ave, Milton Thursday morning at 11:00 am.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Brighton.
