Carolyn L Lewis Obituary
Carolyn L. Lewis, a cherished mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, at Milton Hospital in Milton, Massachusetts. Born in East St. Louis, Illinois, the seventh of eight children.
Raised in the city of East St. Louis, Carolyn had a meek, reserved, inquisitive and sometimes determined spirit. Sadly, at the age of nine she had to leave her beloved home of Illinois, due to her mother’s passing to live with her oldest sister Ladee and her husband Saul Perry in W. Newton, Massachusetts. Later she attended Brighton High School, where she formed a small circle of friends.
Carolyn was the beloved mother of Michael Lewis of Randolph, who will cherish her memory and the unconditional love she provided. She is loved by her sisters Rosemary Miller of Georgia, Zelia Lewis of Texas, Annette Atkins of Randolph and her brother Raymond Lewis of Georgia, and she held close the memory of her late siblings Ladee Perry, Donald, and Crystal Lewis. Carolyn's loyalty and resilience also extended to her role as a doting aunt first to The Perry Clan, then to Tyrone Lewis of Georgia, Late nephew Andre Livsey of Randolph, Tarsha Smith of Randolph, Tamesha Lewis Johnson and her children, As well as, to the many other Nieces, Nephews, Grandnieces, and Grandnephews who will miss her dearly.
In her quiet hidden greatness and ingenuity as a new young mother to her only child Micheal she persevered, advocated and accomplished the impossible task of getting Michael transferred from the Boston Public School to the renowned “The Perkins for the Blind,” established in 1829, the first in the country. There Micheal was educated, empowered to thrive and given opportunities some can only dream of such as playing the piano.
Carolyn's life was filled with the music she loved. In her twenties she, along with her brother Raymond and baby sister Crystal, created a music group. She did background singing, helped with recording and audio equipment. She also played the keyboard and percussion instruments. She found solace and happiness in collecting sound equipment, always in search of the perfect note. Her creative talents also shone through in her leather craftsmanship abilities creating purses, belts and wallets with her simplistic style and attention to detail.
She lived a life full of resilience, loyalty and privacy with a very small circle of friends. Leaving behind her longest friendship over 50 years Delores Knight, who will dearly miss their evening phone calls. She was also dedicated and devoted to being an aunt to the older generation and the younger generation. She is known as, “The fun Aunt,” who would let you have candy, who loved to watch movies, listen to soul music and to eat good food brought or prepared. Over the years she committed her life and time to help raise and support her baby sister Crystal’s, daughter Tamesha and some of her children, Shaquwanda of NH, Shaquan of MA, Shaquell of NH, Shantell of MA and Shanelle of MA. Carolyn was more like a second mother and protector than an Aunt, bonding deeply with last child left home baby girl Shanelle laying a foundation of concern, guidance and support for one of her last legacies.
To those who know her, Carolyn was known for her generosity and her willingness to lend a hand or an ear. She had an innate ability to connect with people from all walks of life with a cautious eye, and her absence will leave a void that cannot be filled. Yet, the legacy of her kindness and zest for life will continue to inspire those who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Carolyn L. Lewis, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible impact she made on the lives of those around her. Her spirit will live on in the memories we hold dear, and in the echoes of the songs she so loved to listen to. Though she has left this earthly stage, her life's melody will continue to resonate in the hearts of her loved ones forever.
We take comfort in knowing that Carolyn is now at peace, and we carry her love with us always. Her journey through life was one of hills and valleys, creativity, and love—a journey that touched us all deeply. We are grateful for the time we had with Carolyn, and we honor her memory by living with the same steadfastness, diligence and quiet strength that she exemplified every day.
Carolyn L. Lewis will be profoundly missed, but the light she brought into this world will never dim. As we remember her, we are reminded of the love she had for her family, the joy she found in music, and the beauty she created with her hands. Her legacy is one of love, artistry, and the enduring bonds of family, and it is a legacy that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
