Carmela Sofia Catinella (Mariano), 91, of Dorchester passed on to eternal life on May 22, 2021. Carmela was born in Boston, daughter of Anna and Nicola Mariano. She spent her early years in the South End where she cherished many happy memories of friends and family in a very diverse neighborhood of Boston. Carmela attended the Abraham Lincoln Grammar School and Dorchester High for Girls. After high school, Carmela worked at the John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston in the accounts dept. At a friend’s wedding she met the love of her life, Mario Catinella with whom she enjoyed almost 68 years of marriage. Carmela loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She enjoyed annual family vacations on Cape Cod as well as several trips to Europe, especially Italy. In her spare time Carmela was a master at puzzles and her favorite, Cryptoquote. Carmela leaves her husband Mario of Dorchester, her daughter, Paula Johnson and her husband Bob of Quincy, her sons Mark Catinella and his wife Connie of Milton, Peter Catinella and his wife Julie of Framingham, and David Catinella and his wife, Rachelle of Norton. She was the proud grandmother of Christopher Johnson, Nicole Skyleson, Mark Johnson, Nicholas Catinella, Anthony Catinella, Laura Frost, Cara and Gina Catinella, and Leo and Jake Catinella. And great-grandmother of Elena and Eric Catinella, Nathan and (brother to be) Frost, Joseph Catinella and Ava Johnson. Also sister of Anthony Mariano, Gemma Mariano, and the late Mary Esposito, and many loving Esposito and Mariano nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Tuesday, May 25th from 8:30 to 10:00 am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am at St. Ann Church, Neponset Avenue in Dorchester. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Boston (Roslindale). In lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to the American Lung Association
